What does ALTERNATE mean math wise ?

It would be nice to know which math cl you are in. For example, in the context of trigonometry, a function that "alternates" may be one that "oscillates" like the sine function. Or in a different course, it could be used to describe sequences that alternate say between positive and negative numbers. Again, your question requires some context.
